Demonstration Operations Under Part 108

Demonstration operations (air shows, races, sales demonstrations, aerial performances, and exhibitions) would be authorized under Part 108 primarily through operating permits, with provisions for heavier aircraft when justified.

• Authorization Pathway: Operating Permit (with possible authorization for heavier aircraft)
• Maximum Takeoff Weight: 110 pounds standard under permit; heavier aircraft possible with FAA authorization
• Population Density Categories: Generally limited to Category 2 or lower
• Fleet / Scale Limits: Subject to permit restrictions; event-specific coordination required
• Additional Requirements: Event safety plans, coordination with event organizers and local authorities, and appropriate aircraft performance and equipage for the demonstration environment

Drone manufacturers, event organizers, and demonstration teams will have a clearer pathway for BVLOS demonstrations. Those already experienced with complex public events and strong safety cases will adapt well to the new permit requirements.
